Eastern Respite and Recreation’s annual camps provide an opportunity for individuals with disabilities to escape the city and have a fun weekend away. In 2011, three separate camps were provided for children, teenagers and adults at Mowbray Farmstay, approximately 90 minutes out of Sydney.

Each of the groups stayed in rustic lodge style accommodation amongst the beautiful surrounds of Mowbray Farm. The groups had the opportunity to participate in a wide range of farm-based activities including milking the cows, feeding the baby animals and horses and riding on the tractor.

For many, the camp also provided their first chance to experience exciting activities such as whip cracking, archery, boomerang throwing and bush dancing. One of the many highlights of the weekend was the evening by the campfire where everyone got to try their hand at making damper, toasting marshmallows and drinking billy tea.

All of the groups had a great time on the farm and enjoyed the chance to have a holiday. The camp not only provided families and carers with a well-deserved break, but also enabled the individuals with a disability to enjoy an activity-filled weekend with many new and fun experiences being shared.
