Masterchef Cooking Challenge

Three of Eastern Respite’s adult programs battled it out to win the best cook crown! Donned with their very own chef hats each group was asked to create their own salad to accompany the BBQ. Each group member was given a role ranging from preparation to chopping. After a leisurely BBQ and sampling of the salads on a sunny Sunday the groups and staff were asked to select their favourite salad. There was no clear winner but each group member was presented with a prize for their efforts. We look forward to sampling future cooking endeavours!

Café Skills

An exciting new project was launched during the July 2011 holiday period. With incentive to develop new skills that will increase future employment prospects, the teenage holiday program activity Café Skills was a huge success. Group participants were assigned various tasks ranging from; taking orders, customer service, barista duties, sandwich hand and cleaning duties. The success of the day has led to this being an ongoing project each holiday period thus enabling the teens to master each element of food and beverage preparation.

Staff and fellow program participants also enjoyed being the recipients of the activity as much as those preparing the food and drinks. People were able to choose their order from a menu, sit back and relax while it was being prepared and finally enjoy delicious toasted sandwiches, hot chocolates and milkshakes.

Carers Weekend Away

The Carer’s Weekend Away is aimed to give much needed rest and relaxation to parents/carer’s that devote the majority of their time and energy caring for other people’s needs. This year’s Carer’s Weekend Away was held at the Crowne Plaza Resort which is located on the beach overlooking Terrigal on the Central Coast.

Each year roughly 30 carers are invited to attend the weekend, they can choose to be involved in planned group activities or spend the weekend relaxing on their own. This year some carers spent time at the hotel day spa getting pampered while others went out and explored the local attractions such as Gosford Regional Art Gallery, Japanese Gardens, Erina Fair, and pelican feeding at The Entrance.

On the Saturday night the group then met to have a beautiful three course dinner at a local restaurant with plenty of good conversation and a few laughs. This is such a great opportunity for our carers to get together and have a relaxing weekend away.
